At TRB, we exclusively use plates of Kydex 2 mm (0.8") for the manufacture of our custom holsters. This choice is not insignificant: Kydex is an innovative composite material, designed specifically for transformation by thermoforming, which combines the properties of two key components — acrylic and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Kydex is an acrylic-PVC composite. This unique combination gives the material exceptional mechanical and chemical properties. More specifically:
Acrylic, Kydex derives its rigidity and ability to form precisely during thermoforming. This allows for the creation of shapes perfectly adapted to the specific needs of each holster, ensuring optimal support for the weapon.
PVC, it obtains its toughness, chemical resistance and excellent interior finishing qualities. PVC also provides good wear resistance and waterproofness that protects the holster from external aggressions.
Kydex has several qualities that justify its use in the manufacture of holsters, knife sheaths and other tactical accessories:
Natural retention after thermoforming : Kydex holds the molded object firmly without requiring additional adjustments, ensuring a secure fit.
Ease of maintenance : this material is easy to clean, which is a significant advantage for an accessory used daily.
